Carriage Driving For Disabled Adults In Dorset

Tuesday, September 12, 2006

Mondays are training days. Volunteer helpers are given instruction in all aspects of horse care, from knowing the points of the horse to identifying every piece of the harness and how it should be fitted; also the procedures for getting wheelchairs in and out of the specially adapted Bennington carts and securing them for a safe ride.
Safety is paramount, so it is important that every member of the team knows what to do in the event of a mishap.
Wally Pitt's experience in the Household Cavalry means that the training for helpers is second to none. His patience, sense of humour and teaching ability make the yard a happy place for all involved and I feel privileged to be a part of all this. The real reward for Wally and his team of helpers is seeing the pleasure and excitement in all the clients each day. Posted by Picasa
