Tropical Heatwave!

Dawn on another day that promises to be hotter than ever!

You are never too old to learn something new! On Monday last week  Maggie came in with a high temperature. Mel, our vet could find no reason for the temperature (PUO - pyrexia of unknown origin).
She was given a steroidal injection and antibiotics in case of secondary infection that might arise from a virus. Within two days she was her old self again.

I was talking about this to a farming friend on Wednesday, of how, on the previous weekend that was so very hot,  the two horses stood out in the direct sun all day without availing themselves of the shade under the trees. He immediately asked me if they were oak trees because the notorious Horse Fly breed among the oaks . We now bring both horses in in the morning to the small paddock with stables they can use and they are happy to stand in the shady stables during the heat of the day and go back to the field in the evening.
It is now my opinion that the high temperature might have been caused by the sun (heatstroke!)

 Since that revelation I have noticed that when we pass under the numerous oak trees out driving  the number of horse flies that appear around the poor horses increases quite noticeably and they are quite oblivious of the fly repellant we use!
