Celebrating 40 Years in the RDA

Forty years ago this week, the RDA amended their constitution to include Carriage Driving. There are now 66 groups like ours that offer carriage driving for people with disabilities. Our group at the East Holton Driving Centre is the only one in Dorset and we are very privileged to have our facilities on this wonderful estate at Holton Lee, now working in partnership with Livability UK.

Brydee asking permission to move off!
Fletcher sporting the celebration rosettes
Elfin showing off in ASDA car park to draw people to part with donations for our cause on a busy Saturday shopping day.

Last weekend the EHDC was was the grateful recipient of a cheque to the sum of £620 that was the amazing total of monies raised by the Poole Bobbin and Lace Circle. That money will buy a complete set of new harness for Brydee who is wearing a hotch-potch of hand-me-downs!! Many thanks to the PBLC for their fund raising efforts!
Little Elfin was as good as gold, and she really enjoyed all the fuss and attention from all the children who could come up and stroke her. Some were very unsure, but she soon won them round.
Total sum raised was around the £90 mark for a two hour visit, much the same as last year.
We could have stayed longer if we hadn't misunderstood Elfin's agitated behaviour that determined our departure time. As soon as she was back in the horse box she felt able to let go a torrent of pee; obviously too embarrassed to perform in public!!
